Designing with the weavers of Kerala

Process and Vision

The weavers of Balaralampuram maintain the age-old tradition of Kasavu saree weaving, infusing a contemporary touch into each piece. The stripes in these sarees are designed holistically by taking each part of the construction while draping a saree.

It takes 19 people to create one saree, from warping, to dyeing, to drafting, to weaving. These are made in collaboration with the women who sit and weave all day at the pit loom, trying to create heirloom and daily wear sarees for the women of Kerala .

This is also because of the climate in Kerala; the softness felt while wearing this saree is indescribable.

Owning such a Kerala saree is considered to be a hand-me-down, as all of these are one-of-a-kind, because of the meticulous time and energy a human has put into putting them together.

Contribute to celebrate and preserve this rich heritage of Kasavu saree weaving by getting one of these striped kasavu sarees.
